Course Description:
In this Virtual Course, learners explore non-appropriated fund (NAF) personnel management processes focusing on how Family and MWR Program Managers hire and retain the best people and implement practices to maximize efficiency and productivity in their programs. Course content includes:
- Hiring: analyze the different generations of our workforce, the relationship to NAF hiring practice, and identify important job duties and highly qualifying criteria (HQC) in order to prepare for a strategic requirement discussion with HR;
- Selecting: review and develop a resume/interview matrix and identify best practices for checking references;
- Onboarding: create a realistic onboarding model and job standards;
- Managing Performance: give frequent feedback, evaluate performance and how to reward and discipline.
- Employee rights: review the manager’s responsibilities in relationship to Workers’ Comp and Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO).
Course Details:
- Target Audience: Family and MWR Program Managers
- Prerequisites: Each student must complete Welcome to Family & MWR Orientation Course (Online), Family and MWR Basic Management Course (Online), and Operation Excellence – Online or Classroom Customer Service Training.
- Duration: 20 hours total in eight 2.5-hour sessions over three weeks.
- Estimated hours to complete the course: 40 hours total, which includes virtual class time of approximately 20 hours (2.5 hours in each session for 8 sessions) and pre-/post-session assignments which require an additional 20 hours (two or three hours/session).
- Course Methodology: This is a virtual course requiring students to communicate synchronously with instructors and fellow students using features such as audio, video, text chat, interactive whiteboard, and application sharing.
- Equipment: Computer with audio capability (microphone plus speakers or headphones), Army 365 Microsoft Teams account, Common-Access Card (CAC) and Internet access that is on the Army network (on the installation or via VPN). A video camera is highly recommended for the best learning experience in Microsoft Teams.
